Teoria sekurytyzacji na przestrzeni ostatnich dwudziestu lat zyskała pozycję jednych z najpopularniejszych ram analitycznych w ramach krytycznych studiów nad bezpieczeństwem. Jednocześnie wokół teorii toczy się wielowątkowa debata, prowadząca do wyłonienia się studiów nad sekurytyzacją, skupiających się zarówno na teoretycznych, jak i praktycznych aspektach jej wykorzystania w analizie, w tym na takich zagadnieniach jak aplikowalność teorii do badania problematyki bezpieczeństwa poza światem Zachodnim, roli języka, praktyki oraz obrazu w procesie sekurytyzacji, a także rozumienia samej koncepcji bezpieczeństwa i konsekwencji z tym związanych. Celem artykułu jest próba usystematyzowania tej debaty, co powinno pozwolić na lepsze zrozumienie ograniczeń związanych z teorią sekurytyzacji i przełożyć się na wykorzystanie jej pełnego potencjału w analizie bezpieczeństwa.
